The English Premier League football season is only at the halfway stage, however, this means that some games hold more importance than others. Today is the start of six days of action and the first match looks to be a good one with Liverpool playing host to Newcastle. The visitors have had a horror run of injuries that has seen them slowly drop from third on the table to seventh – a win today could pump them to fifth, albeit only until Arsenal plays tomorrow. More importantly, a win would enable Newcastle to leap over Liverpool.
From Liverpool’s perspective, a win today would put them in fifth temporarily, and it would push a one point gap back to Newcastle into a four point gap – and important factor with both of these teams playing a Manchester outfit later in the week. Liverpool have their own problems, however, bookmakers still have them at a short 7/12. Newcastle can’t buy friends, even at 6/1. We’re tipping a Liverpool victory, although it may be closer than the football betting suggests.
Finding good priced winners could be difficult this weekend. United, Arsenal and Chelsea all have home games while City and Spurs have testing away matches. The former are all at short prices and should win. The latter could be worth taking on through a betting exchange at Betbubbles. Spurs are away to Swansea who have an impressive home ground record this season. Spurs will be playing their third game in ten days and could have problems with freshness. Swansea are at 9/2 and while those odds are attractive, we’re tipping the draw at 14/5. Tottenham are too short at 8/11 – however, 11/8 through a betting exchange is well worth considering.
Manchester City travel to Sunderland and while the hosts have been hard to beat at home, they seem to have lost the zip they had last season. City are in the midst of a mini form slump that has allowed United to creep up the table to join them at the top. This game will really test City’s metal – will they crumple from the pressure, or stand up and stamp their authority on the League? Sunderland are at 6/1; the draw’s at 17/5; while Manchester City are warm favourites at 4/7. We’re taking this game to the betting exchanges as well – 7/4 for a double chance against City is worth the risk.
